・Because each individual thread is dyed, the fabric becomes softer and develops a unique texture with use. It is dyed using Shibori, a traditional Japanese technique developed in Japan. Shibori involves pouring dye onto plain fabric to create beautiful patterns. Unlike printing, which places pigment on the surface of the fabric, Shibori does not compromise the fabric’s breathability or elasticity. This results in the characteristic feel of a tenugui – high absorbency, quick drying, and increased softness with use. Furthermore, tenugui dyed with Shibori have a unique texture with subtle color bleeding and delicate, gentle blurring, characteristics of handcraftsmanship. With each use, a small amount of dye will fall from the threads, creating a deeper, richer texture. Enjoying the way the tenugui ages is one of the pleasures of Shibori.
