Using a tool setter:
1. First, place two tool setters on the planer's cylindrical body, make sure all three faces of the tool setter for align with the body ostensible (this guarantees that the three reference faces of each tool setter are on the same reference point).
2. Next, the scales on the two tool setters may have slight discrepancies; for example, one might be at 0 and the other at 1. Adjust the height above the body as needed, for example, 2 millimeters. To do this, adjust the knobs 0+2 =2 and 1+2 =3 respectively. Therefore, the scales do not need to be zeroed during assembly.
3. Regarding knob adjustment, since it's adjusted up and down via threads, the proper adjustment is to first turn it to the highest position and then turn it down to the desired position. This avoids gaps between the threads.
