The building faithfully recreates the original three-story structure and north and south domes from the Taisho era, as well as the railway-side wall that is usually hidden from view. The Tokyo Station Marunouchi building opened in 1914 (Taisho 3). Designed by Kingo Tatsuno, it is a magnificent and ornate Western-style building, a three-story reinforced brick structure (total floor area 9,545 m², length 330 m) with octagonal domes on the north and south sides. At that time, the boarding area was on the south side of Marunouchi, and the alighting area was on the north side of Marunouchi. In 1945, at the end of the Pacific War, the building was largely destroyed in the American air raids on Tokyo, leaving only the brick walls and framework. The restoration took two years, reducing the building from its original three stories to two, and changing the distinctive north and south domes from round to trapezoidal. Subsequently, the long-awaited restoration of the station building to its original state was carried out from 2007 to 2012, with the exterior being faithfully restored, and the project was completed on October 1st.
