Explanation by manufacturer
STILL IN JAPAN 100% commitment to production in Japan
Since its establishment, Mikashima Seisakusho (MKS) has consistently focused on development and production in Japan. All processes until the product is completed are carried out in-house, such as casting, forging, cutting, pressing, and assembly. Pedals and related products created with high technology and quality are the only NJS certified, and all professional bicycle racers use MKS pedals. It has also received high support from amateurs and professional cyclists around the world, and is loved as a cycle brand representing Japan.
Integrated production system where everything is done in-house
Cold forging for high accuracy and wear resistance
“Cold forging” is plastic processing using a mold at room temperature without adding material to heat. Compared to “hot forging,” which is processed by applying heat, it is characterized by high accuracy and improved wear resistance. Since a large burden is placed on molds and materials, it is a processing method that requires time, high technology, and experience in all aspects, but all MKS pedal core bars, which can be said to be the heart of pedals, are cold-forged and manufactured in-house. Therefore, a pedal with good rotation performance and excellent durability has been realized.
Quality control through in-house heat treatment
Heat treatment aimed at improving abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and fatigue strength by hardening the material. Mikashima Seisakusho is equipped with in-house furnaces and performs quenching and tempering to control quality. This makes it possible to produce a highly durable pedal core with a hard surface and a sticky center. Not only pedal rods, but also structural parts such as wands and ball presses are manufactured in-house and heat treated, and the accuracy and durability of products are thoroughly controlled at a high level.
Assembly technology that has been cultivated since the company was founded in 1949
Mikashima Seisakusho MKS Pedals has been making pedals since 1949. With the technology we have accumulated, we are still particular about Japanese production. Each NJS-certified premium product is assembled by hand and adjusted using ultra-thin spacers up to 3/100 mm. Rotation performance that can rotate indefinitely has been achieved. Also, for other products, grease is automatically injected and component parts are assembled using a dedicated assembly machine developed in-house. We produce stable pedals with thorough control, but at the end, we adjust and inspect each one by hand.
