Zelkova

Using zelkova as a tabletop piece in a room makes it the main focal point and a centerpiece. Zelkova is also used in interior decoration, carving, and traditional crafts.
Zelkova has long been known as a strong, durable wood and has been used as a building material. Even today, zelkova can be used for any part of wooden architecture, and is particularly well-suited for making pillars. Because of its high cost, there are few houses made primarily from zelkova, but there are many temples made entirely from it.
Thermowood Process
Thermowood, also known as heat-treated wood, is a beautiful, sustainable wood material produced using a chemical-free heat treatment. Thermowood is created by heat-treating hardwood in specialized chamber kilns to temperatures ranging from 180 to 230°C for up to 96 hours. Steam is used as a protective gas, helping to prevent the wood from splitting and becoming damaged during processing. This process causes chemical and structural changes within the wood, resulting in some of the wood's characteristics and qualities being altered. Some of the characteristics and qualities that make Thermowood such a popular species include:
[Dimensionally Stable] The intense heat the wood is exposed to during production dries it deep to its core, removing all moisture and resin from the wood. Therefore, Thermowood does not react as rapidly to humidity changes as untreated wood (reducing the risk of swelling, cracking, and shrinkage) and retains its shape much better. The wood also does not secrete sap or resin, even at high temperatures.
[Eco-Friendly] The hardwoods used to make Thermowood come from well-managed natural forests, and no chemicals or artificial substances are used during production, making Thermowood an eco-friendly material produced using only natural methods.
What is Boumbi?
Boumbi is a brand name of Choonwoo Inc., which has been manufacturing wooden kitchenware for department stores and retailers in Korea for the past 35 years. It was the first to introduce high-frequency vacuum drying technology and thermowood processing to the wooden cutting board industry.
