Blissful Saudade Ambient by Toshihide, the future of Brazilian music

Fabiano do Nascimento is a multi-string guitarist from Rio de Janeiro and based in LA. The first work from the avant-garde label 'Leaving' led by Matthew David is an ethereal ambient masterpiece with the floating tone of a multi-string guitar and minimal beats entwined in the chords. The name of (5), “Yugen,” has guitar and synth loops, and is somewhat reminiscent of the “E2-E4,” which was obtained. A live sound source was recorded as a bonus track limited to the Japanese CD, and ally Sam Gendell participated here on the saxophone.

Tower Records（2023/09/29） A new work by Fabiano Do Nascimento, a multi-string guitarist and songwriter from Brazil who is also an ally of Sam Gendel and is currently based in Los Angeles, has been released by the prestigious Leaving Records.

This work “Das Nuvens” is a brilliant, blissful, groove-oriented showcase by mature musicians who combine traditional idioms (samba, shoro, etc.) from their native Brazil with modern and experimental elements such as jazz, pop, and electronic music.

Nascimento, who grew up in Rio and Sao Paulo and moved to Southern California in his teens, has been influenced by his youth, surrounded by Brazil's very fertile music environment. It was inevitable that he would join this genealogy. Since they were in a musical family, young Nascimento read sheet music, played the piano, and dabbled in the flute, but he picked up a guitar at age 10. The affinity with the guitar immediately became decisive and clear. His encounter with the guitar further accelerated his journey into the decades-long history of Brazilian classical music.

“Das Nuvens” is a free and exploratory work in which musicians who have learned a clear musical language seek to apply their techniques to a wider range of experimental methods of expression. The title of Track 1, which is structured around meditative and pointillistic refrain, is “Babel,” and this is named after a legend where humans tried to build a tower to heaven. It's a harsh analogy on the surface, but this myth expresses the beauty of our world's dizzying array of languages (modes of existence) and the subsequent cultural exchange through art. In this respect, it is an appropriate title to adorn the beginning of this album, which dismantles and collages not only modern and classic Brazilian idioms and pop idioms, but also various indigenous music that Nascimento has met and studied during his travels as a tour musician.

“Das Nuvens,” which was recorded at Fabiano's home studio with long-time friend and collaborator Daniel Santiago (who is also in charge of art design for the album), is wind-blown nature (the sad “Thrdwrld” is a song where Morricone gently flutters in a trap) and Nascimento It evokes the lush green forests of Latin America (especially “Aurora”) of youth, and at the same time brings to the forefront the immeasurable universal sense of healing and inspirational music. The CD was released only in Japan, and Fabiano do Nascimento: Guitar, Sam Gendel: Saxophone, Gabe Noel: Bass, and Tamir Barzilay at the live concert commemorating the release of this work held at the Lodge Room in LA on 2023/6/23 as a bonus track : A live sound source for the title track performed by the Drums team has been added.
