This disc contains the first of two shows from the 1984 "The An Innocent Man Tour," held on February 13th at The Spectrum in Philadelphia. After releasing "An Innocent Man" in August of the previous year, it became a hit in the US, reaching number 4, and produced a record-breaking six hit singles, including "Tell Her About It" and "Uptown Girl," which both reached number 1 in the US, and "The Longest Time," which has become a must-have song for a cappella groups in Japan. The tour started in January of the following year, touring North America until May, before arriving in Japan at the end of May for seven shows, including four at the Budokan. Next, they performed three shows at Wembley in the UK, and then returned to New York for seven shows at Madison Square Garden to conclude the tour. Their popularity, which had continued since "The Stranger" in 1977, remained undiminished, and all 67 shows of the tour were sold out, demonstrating their overwhelming popularity. Of the 21 songs performed, only four were new songs from "An Innocent Man," with the rest being hit songs and representative tracks evenly distributed from each album. It's well known that Billy Joel's songs are popular in Japan and the US for different reasons, but it might be relatively rare to hear "The Stranger," which isn't particularly popular in America, being performed. The band members include Liberty DeVito (drums), who has supported Billy Joel to this day, as well as David Brown (guitar), Russell Javoz (guitar), and Doug Stegmeyer (bass), all familiar faces to Billy Joel fans. The balance between the sound of the performance and the audience's voices is just right, making it a great recording that makes you feel like you're actually at the venue.
