The Soul Sound low tuning is made for a deeper, fuller response, with bass strokes that sit warmly under the rhythm.

Played at the centre, the drum gives a grounding bass; nearer the rim, it opens into brighter tone and slap sounds.

The taller goblet shape helps the sound project, so it suits rhythm circles, meditation sessions and relaxed home playing.

The shell is made from jackfruit wood, with polyester string running down the body and a rubber base at the foot. The photo shows a warm brown finish with dark decorative linework, black lacing around the head, and a pale playing surface marked with the Soul Sound emblem.

Playing and keeping it well

Sit with the drum angled slightly away from you, leaving the base open so the sound can breathe. Use relaxed hands rather than force: a flat palm in the centre for bass, fingers together near the edge for tone, and a quicker edge stroke for slap.

Keep it dry and away from damp storage. Wipe the shell and head with a soft, dry cloth after playing, and avoid placing heavy objects on the drumhead.

A djembe with West African roots

The djembe comes from West Africa, where it has long been used for gathering, dance, ceremony and shared rhythm. This Indonesian-made version carries that recognisable goblet form into a contemporary home and music-room setting, giving regular players a grounded, tactile way to practise call-and-response rhythms.
