The name bancha () comes from the words "ban" and "cha." "Cha" is tea in Japanese. The word "ban" can be understood as the equivalent of "everyday," "popular," or "late." The latter meaning refers to the late harvest, from which bancha leaves are picked from the lower part of the tea bushes. Moya Bancha comes from organic farming on the island of Kyushu. PROPERTIES OF BANCHA In Japan, bancha is considered an everyday tea and is often served with meals. It can be drunk all day because it contains about 70% less caffeine than gyokuro. It is characterized by a higher tannin content than other teas because its leaves undergo photosynthesis for a longer period. Tannins, or tannins, have anti-inflammatory, astringent, and detoxifying properties. Along with other Japanese green teas, bancha is also a source of catechins and antioxidants.
