Gibeon is characterized by a mysterious pattern known as the Widmanstätten structure. This is formed when a mixture of nickel and iron is exposed to an environment of 300-900°C and 100,000 atmospheres, similar to the center of a planet, and as the temperature drops by several degrees over the course of a million years, the iron and nickel components begin to separate. As a result, when polished Gibeon is immersed in acid, patterns are created due to the degree of dissolution. This pattern is called the Widmanstätten structure.
