[Story] One early summer evening, a young woman disappears from the beach. The next day, her mutilated body washes up on the shore, throwing the peaceful tourist town of Amity into chaos. Police Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) believes the crime to be the work of a giant man-eating shark. He proposes closing the beach, but is vehemently opposed by the mayor, who fears it would result in the loss of beachgoers, a valuable source of revenue. But soon, a second victim appears among the beachgoers! Feeling responsible, Brody boards a boat with expert shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) and oceanographer Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and heads out to sea, but an unimaginable battle to the death begins...
